Updated League Rules

Our 2021 Spring/Summer League Rules have been updated and can be found here. We ask all coaches to have a good understanding of the rules (especially age specific rules) prior to starting league play in order to avoid unnecessary game delays. If you have questions about any of the rules please reach out to your age specific league commissioner. Commissioners contact information can be found here.

This is by no means a full list of every rule tweaked/modified but the main highlights are:

  • OGAA League Tie Breaker – In 12U, 14U, 16/18U and Premier Leagues, if at the end of the time limit the game is tied, one complete inning will be played using the USA Softball ITB rules. If at the end of that inning, it is still a tie, the score will be recorded as a tie.
  • 8U League Rule 7 – A batted ball which strikes the pitching machine or offensive coach will result in a dead ball and the batter will be awarded 1st base, and any runner on base will be awarded one base from the base they started at prior to the pitch.
  • 10U Player/Coach Pitch League Rule 1 – Games are 70 minutes long. Games are over if neither team can mathematically win the game after 70 minutes played. No inning may start after 70 minutes unless all players have not yet batted in the game.
  • 10U Player/Coach Pitch League Rule 11 – Stealing is allowed except for home if a girl pitcher throws the pitch. A runner may only advance one base per pitch on a steal even if there is an overthrow by the catcher on the steal. A runner can never advance to home on a steal. This means that if the catcher throws to second for a runner attempting to steal second, a runner from third may not advance home. A player attempting to steal home will have the liability to be out on a defensive play. Players who attempt to steal home and are not put out by the defensive team will be returned to 3rd base. Stealing rules override the one base on an overthrow rule. Runners may not advance home from 3rd base on a passed ball or overthrow to the pitcher. A player may only advance home from 3rd base on a fair hit ball, if forced by a walk or a batter hit-by-pitch. Base runners may not leave the base until the girl pitcher or coach pitcher releases the ball.
  • 10U USA “C” League Rule 2 – No dropped 3rd strikes, no infield fly rule.
  • 10U USA “C” League Rule 3 – No stealing home. This means that if the catcher throws to second for a runner attempting to steal second, a runner from third may not advance home. A player attempting to steal home will have the liability to be out on a defensive play. Players who attempt to steal home and are not put out by the defensive team will be returned to 3rd base. Runners may not advance home from 3rd base on a passed ball or overthrow to the pitcher. A player may only advance home from 3rd base on a fair hit ball, if forced by a walk or a batter hit-by-pitch.
